0 U R not in Paris

U R not in Paris yet...
U R in Bel Ami, just a stone's throw away on 30 East 68th Street - their macarons are quite handsome...
Shut tight - no pretty renovation signs outside like Parisien shops normally do.
Send your darling prized pet to Paris! If you have an unusual animal you'd like to send to Paris in a watercolor portrait (like these Nigerian Dwarf Dairy goats or say a boa constrictor) you'll get a break on the price. Three boas for the price of one etc.

U can pretend you're in Paris and get macarons up the street at La Maison du Chocolat at 1018 Madison ave and 78th street. They are flown in once a week direct. I wish they would put their porte-etiquette/little signs up in French...

Dean & Deluca would like to fool you with REAL French beurre but at $10 bucks a pop, one is not so easily fooled...

NO WAY are these French chocolats! If you bite into this artwork you could break your tooth...

Darling little ballerinas may make you dream of Paris, but U R in NYC.

American lingerie has a long way to go to come close to Parisian lingerie so No, U R not in Paris yet...

La Perla, a French company does the 'covered-up' look with so much more panache, classe et luxe on 810 Madison avenue.

Who knew Ralphie Lauren on 79th & Madison ave. would be chock-a-block with Frenchies grabbing up the goods? Is it cheaper than the Paris branch?

Only in NEW YORK will you find a proliferation of food carts and food trucks. Paris is sadly behind us on this...

Menteurs!(Liars) This bistro is NOT IN PARIS!

Nor are these Yellow cabs. c'est la vie.

BONJOUR PARIS/NEW YORK!

0 Macaron Memories

Sometimes you find treasures lurking on an old memory photo card. I found piles of Paris macarons from 2 years ago I'd completely forgotten about. It's been too long since we've looked at the not so basic Parisian macaron at PB. We've been focused on Maine lobsters, Bordeaux chateaux and this week Venetian gondolas (there are just a few left BTW till the sale ends tonight dear PBers). Two years ago I was obsessed with macarons colors...
I was madly trying to match pistachio macarons with paint - boy is that a watercolor challange! And so many shades of pistache. Who knew? I was just as obsessed with macaron boxes. Gerard Mulot is constantly redesigning his boxes - with a window, without etc. That was the trip I came home with 19 macarons boxes and got stopped at CDG customs. I was wearing my macaron T-shirt and matching bracelet. What? They thought I was a macaron terrorist?
Fauchon has different mac boxes mainly changing the cover designs. I always loved this one.

I would suggest you NOT buy a pre-packed box of macs. Gawd only knows when they were put in the box?
On the other hand these original style almond macarons are sold attached to parchment paper they were baked on. The few crumbs sticking to the paper still taste just fine.
If you can't have the real thing there is always endearing macaron detritus/stuff...

Does a tragic feeling come over you as you near the end of the last of your Parisian macarons? Proust was ahead of his time writing cookie homages. There's probably a thousand homages to macarons going up on the net at this very moment...

I have a very stale 5-month old box in the fridge surrounded by encrouching CSA veggies - not the correct company for a macaron no matter how past it's sell-by-date don't you think?

A flat of Mad MacNYC Bastille Day macs lurk in my freezer.
Nothing like a real taste of Paris.
What are your macaron memories?
Do tell all

Not long ago, I was approached by Chef Damien from the French "750g.com" who asked me if I was interested in doing an interview that would be featured on his website. As I'm always happy to give a few minutes of my time to speak about my blog and my passion for food, it was with much pleasure, joy, enthusiasm and playfulness that I answered his in-depth questions.

You can read the interview here (only in French, unfortunately)...

0 Mini Fauchon Tea Tin

Fauchon Tea Tin, watercolor,9" x 11"

I used to paint Re-ment miniatures...

That's how I fell in love with this tea tin browsing at MeowPaw's minis. I used to go hunting every morning for interesting things to paint among the Flickr mad mini collectors...

Identical to a real tea tin from Fauchon, my fav Paris place to browse...

We used to have one in New York and I went every Sunday to browse religiously. I really miss it.

Now I must go to Paris if I want to browse in Fauchon...

I would LOVE to wear a pink apron. Do you need a New Yorker, Fauchon to help taste new cakes and assist tourists?

First thing I'd try out is this "squared" citron tarte...

Oh, another squared thing - a "Rubik" tarte needs tasting in my opinion.
Miam!
Triple Framboise YUM!
A macaron gateaux!
I would send this lovely gift basket to you Atsuko-san, for sending me your mini tea tin all the way from Japan.

It brought back many memories...
